⏱️ 2 Minutes

On the eve of April 22, International Mother Earth Day, Roya Institute has officially joined the global environmental movement by signing the joint statement of Faiths for a Fossil Free Future, a global multi-faith coalition working to advance climate justice.

This interfaith coalition brings together religious leaders, communities, and institutions—including the World Council of Churches, Islamic Relief Worldwide, the Parliament of the World’s Religions, and the United Religions Initiative—to work collectively, drawing on shared ethical and spiritual values such as justice, stewardship, and responsibility toward future generations, to protect our common planet.

The statement has been issued in connection with the First International Conference on the Just Transition Away from Fossil Fuels, to be held on April 28–29, 2026, in Santa Marta, Colombia. More information about the conference is available here.

The statement emphasizes several key principles:

  • An immediate end to the development of new fossil fuel projects
  • A rapid and equitable phase-out of existing fossil fuel production, with particular attention to vulnerable communities
  • A just transition to renewable energy for all, ensuring the protection of workers and local communities
  • The moral responsibility of governments and economic institutions in addressing the climate crisis and global inequality

The full text of the statement is available here.

Roya Institute’s participation in this initiative is fully aligned with its core mission of advancing universal human rights, promoting environmental justice, and safeguarding nature as a divine trust entrusted to humanity.

Roya believes that protecting the Earth is not only an environmental necessity, but also a moral and spiritual responsibility toward present and future generations.

This step represents a meaningful contribution to global efforts aimed at protecting our shared home and advancing justice for all.
