Dr. Seyed Masoud Noori
Founder and Executive Director
Dr. Noori is a law professor and activist, focusing on the relationship between Islamic law/Sharia and the international human rights law system. He is currently a Scholar in Residence at the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice (CHRGJ), NYU Law School.
In addition to a Ph.D. in Private Law, he has more than 20 years of experience studying, teaching, and researching Islam. His professional background includes working with UNICEF, UNDP, and ICRC.
He began his career as a law faculty member at Mofid University, where he received his Ph.D. He has since served as a lecturer and researcher at various universities in Ireland and the United States and some well- internationally renowned NGOs and professional networks.
Since 2003, He has been involved in the design, implementation, presentation, and teaching in national, regional and international workshops, conferences and summer schools in more than 15 countries. Topics include, but are not limited to, human rights, clinical practice in law education, the environment, interfaith dialogue.
Dr. Noori recently received the MESA Global Academy award (2020-2021 scholars)
Before joining CHRGJ as a Scholar in Residence, Dr. Noori was a visiting scholar at Trinity University (San Antonio, TX), where he taught courses related to current issues in the Middle East. Before that, he served as the research director of the Center for the Study of Islam & the Middle East (CSIME), a Washington DC-based NGO. His other academic posts include positions at NYU Law, Emory Law School, and the National University of Ireland, Galway. Masoud was a faculty member at Mofid University, Qom, Iran, where he served at the Center for Human Rights Studies in several leadership positions.
His research interests and activities include children’s rights, legal clinics, environmental law, Muslim countries’ constitution, religion, and politics in the Middle East, interfaith dialogue.
He is a member:

- Global Watch Group (GWG), as the International Law Advisor,
- The Parliament of World Religions,
- MESA Global Academy (2020-2021 scholars)
He also serves on the Editorial Board of several academic journals.
