June 20- WORLD REFUGEE DAY

June 20 has been designated by the UN as World Refugee Day to honor refugees across the globe and celebrate the courage and strength of the people who have been forced to leave their home country to escape conflict or persecution. The refugees all across the globe face a lot of hardships, and their situation is many times hard breaking. The Covid-19 pandemic has further exposed the vulnerability of refugees. The crisis of the migrants has also come to highlight during this pandemic.

2021 Theme: Together, we heal, learn and shine

The theme for 2021 is threefold:

  • Together we heal: The aim is to provide access to primary and secondary health care, sexual and reproductive health, and mental health services to the refugees.
  • Together we learn: Education plays a vital role in building a better future, and the aim behind this sub-theme is to transform lives by providing access to education.
  • Together we shine: The aim is to support the refugees by unfolding their creative sides and promoting sports to enrich their lives and boost mental health.

For the first time on June 20, 2001, World Refugee Day was held to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Refugee Convention. It will also be the 70th Anniversary of the “1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees”.
