June 14, WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY

A single blood donation by a healthy person can save more than one life and provides access to safe blood and blood products to people in dire need. June 14 is celebrated as World Blood Donor Day all across the globe. This day raises awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank all the voluntary and unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gift.

DONATE BLOOD. SAVE LIFE. SAVE HUMANITY. CREATE AWARENESS

Millions of people come up to save numerous lives by donating blood. However, many people are hesitant in donating blood, believing the myths about blood donation to be true. It is pertinent to raise awareness pertaining to blood donation and to make people more informed.

Kindly keep the following facts in mind for blood donation:

1. Any healthy person can donate blood. (Check with your doctor for the same)

2. The body makes up for the donated blood in a short span of time.

3. One can resume their daily activities post blood donation after taking plenty of fluids and some rest.

4. The process is not time-consuming, but it can save a life (in many cases, it can save more than one life).

5. Do not believe the myths about blood donation and be informed about the true facts.

2021 Theme- “Give blood and keep the world beating”

The theme for 2021 highlights the precious contribution made by blood donors in keeping the world pulsating by saving lives. Italy will be hosting World Blood Donor Day 2021. This theme also focuses upon the global call for more people to donate blood. The objectives of this year’s campaign are:

• Thanking the blood donors and creating awareness of regular, unpaid blood donation

• Promoting community values of blood donation

• Encouraging youth to come forward for blood donation and inspire others to do the same.

• Celebrating the potential of youth as partners in promoting health.

Many people came forward last year to help the people in need of blood, plasma, etc., and saved lives when the entire world was fighting against Covid-19.
